How Nizzy Built Orchid

Meet Nizar Abi Zaher, known online as Nizzy. He is the co-founder and CEO of Orchid, an AI executive assistant within iMessage.

Nizzy

Early Days

Nizzy has been building things throughout his life, including co-founding a company that is now known as Orchid.

He studied Business Law at Carleton University in Ottawa, from which he graduated in 2023. During his time in school, he started a YouTube channel (Nizzyabi) where he taught people how to code. He has also managed a Gabriel Pizza franchise in Ottawa since June 2020.

Building Orchid

Nizzy has had a variety of experiences in his past jobs.

Right before launching the Orchid platform, he was working as an engineer at Cal.com. This experience, in particular, has helped him build the product that eventually became Orchid. The company has launched in early 2025 under a different service - MailZero, as an open-sourced email client. The idea was to let users summarize email threads, reply with natural language, and have them chat with their email in place of conventional reading.

The product has launched in mid-2025, at 0.email, with an open-source MIT license. The company raised from Y Combinator, and a round of roughly 2 million dollars has also occurred from 1984 ventures and Pioneer Fund. But, after roughly six months of launch they pivoted.

The Pivot

He and his co-founder Adam Wazzan (former team lead at Cal.com) have shut down the email client and moved on to building something bigger and more ambitious, which eventually became Orchid. According to Him, almost nothing went to waste during the development of the email client as the knowledge, experience, and community were important in building Orchid. Their new company has pivoted from being an email client to building an "executive assistant within iMessage."

About Orchid

The product offers briefing texts every morning, drafts replies, sets up meetings, and much more, where the user approves every action directly in iMessage.

Orchid does all routine tasks for you, including preparing for meetings by displaying information on the person you are talking to, what you discussed in the past, drafting emails in your voice, and much more.

It handles your calendar in particular, using more than 50 apps via an API to do so. It will also be able to provide tips on local restaurants in the area or help describe the stadium's location.

Consider an AI Agent Assistant which sits in your DMs.

He focuses on automating routine tasks, not exciting and entertaining ones. That has been the key idea behind Orchid. It is about turning the boring parts of everyday life into something organized and efficient.
